School of Graduate Studies
General Profile
There are over 13 000 students enrolled in the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) at the University of Toronto, studying in an extraordinary range of scholarly fields. U of T is one of the top research universities in North America and is an attractive choice for students from this continent, as well as from other countries around the world. There are over 80 graduate departments and collaborative (interdisciplinary) programs at U of T, which provide students with a wide range of study and research activities unmatched by smaller institutions.
We welcome exchange students to SGS and look forward to receiving your application. When applying you must select a home department (not a program). Please see the full list of graduate units or the SGS Admission Guide for more information. You may ask to enrol in courses offered by other departments, but at least two of your courses must be taken in your host department.

Admission Requirements for SGS
To be eligible for admission as an exchange student into graduate studies at U of T, you must be pursuing studies at the graduate level at your home institution. Admission requirements are determined by the policy of SGS. In general, you must have completed the equivalent of a four-year Bachelor's degree to enrol in Master's-level courses. Students from Germany must have successfully completed the Vordiplom, plus at least two semesters of study in order for their file to be considered for graduate admission. In all cases, there is no guarantee of admission.
Information about English-language requirements for international applicants is available on the SGS website. Other admission requirements might be set by individual departments.
If you have any questions about exchange admission, please contact the CIE Exchange Program staff (please do not contact any other office, department or professor directly, unless instructed to do so).
