Going abroad is an experience of a lifetime! In order to be nominated for exchange by the Centre for International Experience, there are a few steps you will need to take. Bear in mind however, that many of the programs on offer require an independent nature. Students are strongly encouraged to review the information on our website carefully, research potential host institutions and discuss possible plans with academic advisors (e.g., professors whose academic research is in an area in which you are interested) prior to meeting with us.
Please note that there are certain risks inherent in studying abroad and as such, it is not appropriate for every individual. We highly encourage you to do as much research as possible about the general and specific dangers associated with travelling to the region that interests you. You should also read the travel report, issued by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT), for the country you are interested in travelling to.
General Application Requirements
Most of the programs offered by CIE are competitive (i.e., decisions about program places are not made on a first come, first served basis and there are not necessarily spots for all applicants). Depending on what program you'd like to apply for, you'll need to first determine whether you meet the Eligibility Requirements, then submit some combination of the following documents:
