Faculty Approval

All Faculties at U of T need to know which of their students are participating in a program abroad. Depending on the Faculty in which you are registered, the Student Exchange Program may or may not obtain Faculty approval on your behalf. If permission is not obtained for you, then you will be required to explicitly request permission to apply for an international opportunity on your own.  The information below will help you to determine whether or not you must seek faculty permission on your own:

  • If you are a University of Toronto Scarborough student, you must have approval from the  Admissions & Transfer Credit Officer to participate. You can find the necessary form on the Registrar's Office website. Approval to participate will be emailed to you and to the Student Exchange Program.  You should upload a copy of this email to your application.
  • If you are a Graduate student, you must have the approval of your graduate unit, joint program unit (if applicable) and Ph.D. supervisor (if applicable).  You will need to have the Graduate approval form signed to upload with your application.
  • If you are an Engineering student, you should have the approval of your department to apply for exchange.  Please visit your Departmental Counsellor well before applying for a program.
  • If you are a Law student in a Combined Program, you must have the approval of your non-Law department. You will need to have the Combined Program Student Approval Form signed to upload with your application.

If you are a student in the Faculty of Arts & Science at St. George campus or Mississauga campus, in the Faculty of Physical Education and Health, Faculty of Music or Faculty of Law, then the Student Exchange Program will seek approval from your Faculty on your behalf. There is nothing that you need to do prior to applying.
