Interview

After you have submitted your application and the deadline for your first-choice program has passed, your application will be assessed for completeness and meeting the minimum eligibility requirement, and your online application will become unchangeable.

If required for your program, you will be contacted through your U of T email address to come in for an interview. Students whose first program choice is particularly competitive may be interviewed for their second choice instead, and you will be informed of this fact in the email.

Interviews will be conducted by at least one staff member from CIE and usually one other U of T administrator or instructor. If you have applied for an institution where the teaching language is not English, you may be required to answer questions in that language during the interview or to take a placement test at another time.

Each interview lasts between 15 and 30 minutes and is fairly casual, but students will be ranked according to the seriousness of their interest, as well as their personal and academic fit with the program they have chosen.

The decision to nominate a student for a given program is based on a careful review of the entire application package, including: academic record, statement of interest, résumé, references and interview. Details of the decision process, including student rankings and reasons for these rankings, are confidential and will not be disclosed to any applicant.
