OSAP
If you will be participating in a study abroad opportunity through CIE, you will most likely still be registered as a full-time student at the University of Toronto while you are away. As such, if you are currently eligible to receive OSAP, then you will continue to be eligible to receive OSAP for your term(s) abroad.
Amount
If you will receive U of T credit or transfer credit for your study abroad program, then you are eligible to receive the same amount of OSAP that you would receive here at U of T. Differences in the cost-of-living between Toronto and your host destination are not considered in determining your eligibility or your assessment amount. The only difference that will be considered in determining the value of your loan is whether or not you are living at home.
Students studying abroad for internship credit may not be eligible to receive OSAP for their term(s) abroad, depending on the duration, credit for study and compensation level of the internship work.
Applying
You should apply at least two months before the start of your studies, to ensure that your paperwork is completed on time.
If you're studying abroad for the summer or have a July start in the southern hemisphere, then you will have to apply using the previous year's application (or internally through Admissions & Awards, if you already have an active application for that year). All other students can apply at the regular time, online as usual.
